Maps Mania: Reside London Underground Trains

Reside maps displaying the actions of planes, trains, and vehicles have been amongst my favourite mash-ups through the years, so it appears becoming to launch the third decade of Maps Mania with a good looking illustration of a stay, real-time transit map.

The Reside Tube Map is a totally interactive, real-time 3D map that permits you to watch underground trains transfer throughout London as they shuttle via tunnels, stations, and contours. It’s just like the basic Tube map – however alive. Constructed by Ben James, the Reside Tube Map makes use of real-time information from Transport for London (TfL) to visualise every practice’s location, progress, and route. Every transferring coloured line you see gliding throughout the display is an actual practice, up to date in close to real-time and positioned on a extremely stylized 3D map of London.

The selection of utilizing transferring coloured polylines with clear tails provides the map a good looking and mesmeric aesthetic (though I feel the blocky trains utilized by Mini Tokyo 3D are exhausting to beat).

Underneath the hood, the map is powered by:

Hovering over a practice on the map reveals a clear tooltip: line identify, present standing, journey progress (with a neat progress bar), and even upcoming stations. Past the sheer visible enchantment, the Reside Tube Map is a captivating demo of what’s potential whenever you combine open information with open-source tech. It transforms a fancy community of stay infrastructure into one thing playful, clear, and informative.

It reveals you transferring trains on a map in real-time!
