Yesterday, the World Meteorological Organization released its 2025 State of the Global Climate report. The report confirms that last year was among the three hottest years on record, with global temperatures about 1.43 °C above the 1850-1900 average.
The report includes an interactive map visualising last year’s extreme climate events – the 2025 Extreme Events Dashboard. This map displays extreme weather events reported during 2025, as declared by national meteorological services around the world. In total, the map shows 402 global extreme weather events in 2025, 123 of which were classified as “unprecedented.”
Users can click on individual countries on the map to view details of the extreme weather events experienced there in 2025. Selecting a country also reveals how much warmer it was compared to its reference period (which varies by country), as well as how the year ranked against historical temperature records.
Overall, the State of the Global Climate report highlights a climate system under increasing and accelerating strain, with record-high concentrations of greenhouse gases, unprecedented ocean heat content, and continued glacier loss. With 2025 ranking among the warmest years on record, the Extreme Events Dashboard, in particular, demonstrates how global heating is already affecting countries and ecosystems worldwide.
