GeoGuessr has inspired countless spin-offs over the years, but NYCGuessr adds a clever twist to the formula by replacing Street View imagery with live traffic cameras from across New York City.
The premise is simple. You’re shown a live feed from an NYC traffic camera and have 40 seconds to work out where it is. Drop a pin on a map, submit your guess, and score points based on how close you are to the camera’s actual location. Five rounds later, your total score reveals just how well you know the city’s streets.
What makes NYCGuessr particularly engaging is that the imagery is genuinely live. Instead of exploring static Street View scenes, you’re looking at a real-time view of New York. The game itself is structured into five distinct rounds. In each round, you have just 40 seconds to analyze the live video for clues – street signs, distinct architecture, subway entrances, or familiar storefronts – and drop a pin on an interactive map. The closer your pin is to the actual camera location, the higher your score.
NYCGuessr demonstrates that there is still plenty of room for innovation within the GeoGuessr genre.
